About us:

The Institute of Clinical Neuroimmunology (https://www.neuroimmunology-munich.de/our-labs/meinl-lab/3dc4a633666a8413)   is devoted to research into the mechanisms and treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) and related diseases. Our institute combines reseach at the biomedical center (BMC) with taking care for patients at the Klinikum Großhadern. This infrastructure is ideally suited for joining basic research with clinically relevant issues.

Background and project: Inflammatory diseases of the CNS comprise a spectrum of disorders amongst which MS is the most frequent one. These diseases are due to misguided autoreactive immune cells that attack the own nervous system and induce chronic inflammation. We aim to (1) explore the autoimmunity against known target antigens and identify novel targets of autoimmune responses to stratify patients, (2) recognize mechanisms of actions of immunomodulatory drugs applied to patients with MS and related disorders. This specific project aims at understanding the role of B cells and plasma cells in neuroinflammation and will be performed in the BMC in the lab of Prof. Dr. Edgar Meinl.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

- Culture and FACS analysis of human immune cells
- Apply cellular, molecular and biochemical techniques to study details of antigen recognition and effector functions of autoantibodies
- Engage in data analysis and collaborate with computational scientists.

Your qualifications:

- MSc or equivalent degree in Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry or a related discipline. Alternative: MD with a strong interest in basic research
- Enthusiasm for joining basic research with clinically relevant issues
- Experience with FACS, immune cell culture, molecular biology techniques and bioinformatics is advantageous
- Strong communication skills and fluency in English (spoken and written).

Eine Ihrer Hauptaufgaben ist die detaillierte Vor- und Nachbereitung der Berufungsverhandlungen des Präsidenten.

PhD Student - Life Science, Biology, Immunology

As part of the Research Training Group RTG 2668 -Immune Master Switches in Allergies and Autoimmune Diseases-, the research group -Airway Immunology- led by Prof. Dr. Carsten Schmidt-Weber and PD Dr. Constanze Jakwerth is looking for a PhD Student.

The translational project investigates key factors of the innate immune system that control the development of tolerance to allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) at the immune system level and at the muscosal airway barrier. State-of-the-art technology (including high-dimensional flow cytometry, transcriptome analyses, proteomics) will be used to identify and functionally characterise human T cell subtypes, molecular signalling pathways and new adjuvant agents..

You will establish human 3D and tissue cultures
Your tasks include immunofluorescence staining, cofocal microscopy and image analysis
Your work includes molecular biological and epigenetic analyses
You will carry out individual analyses such as high-dimensional flow cytometry or single cell sequencing
You will analyse immune mediators at RNA and protein level
You will independently plan, carry out and analyse experiments

You already have a degree in the field of life sciences, biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine or molecular biotechnology
You have already gained practical experience with molecular biological, immunological or cell biological methods

We investigate how cancer develops, identify cancer risk factors and look for new cancer prevention strategies. The DKTK partner site Munich is offering for as soon as possible a PhD Student Position in the DKTK Joint Funding Project "BACTORG: Organoid co-cultures of the Cancer Microbiome".

The Department of Translational Cancer Research and the Institute of Experimental Cancer Therapy at the DKTK partner site Munich is seeking one PhD student to join the DKTK-funded Joint Funding Project „BACTORG: Elucidating Bacterial Impacts on Colorectal Cancer Phenotypes and Therapies using patient-derived Organoids" as soon as possible.

We are deploying advanced organoid co-culture systems and in vivo models in combination with cell state and mutation reporters and single cell technologies with spatial readouts to study the impact of intestinal microbes and their metabolites on colon cancer initiation, progression and therapy response. Our lab has generated a comprehensive resource of cancer specimens and primary organoid cell cultures, which have been characterized at the genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic level to elucidate the molecular makeup and phenotypes of these tumors. The advertised project focuses on a comprehensive analysis of the mechanisms by which bacterial species and their metabolites impact on mutation accumulation, signaling, and therapy response of colon cancer subtypes. For this, we will make use of sophisticated co-culture models including bacteria and bacterial culture supernatants, coupled to a variety of functional and phenotypic assays. Findings from these studies will be validated in vivo and incorporated into an integrated analysis framework relating the experimental data back to clinical datasets.

Your Tasks

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

- Gain important insights into clinically relevant aspects of cancer development and therapy
- Perform state-of-the-art in vitro organoid and in vivo experiments with single cell readouts
- Learn and apply a wide spectrum of genetic, molecular and cell biology, biochemical as well as micobial and bioinformatics techniques to study translational aspects of colon cancer (e.g. Cre/loxP and Flp/FRT based dual- and triple recombinase systems, orthotopic organoid transplantations, CRISPR/Cas9, quantitative proteomics/phosphoproteomics, multiple transcriptomics and genomics approaches, single cell sequencing and imaging, histocytometry)
- Use advanced bioinformatics platforms for the analysis of single cell RNA-sequencing datasets and integrate these datasets with existing molecular (WES, WGBS, lcWGS), phenotypic (e.g. histology), drug screening and clinical information
- Interact within a diverse and multidisciplinary environment of biologists, clinicians, computational scientists and mathematicians within the TranslaTUM.

Your Profile

We are looking for exceptional self-motivated bright individuals with a Diploma or Master’s degree in bioinformatics, biochemistry, biology, molecular/translational medicine or related subjects. Previous exposure to and experience with basic biochemical and molecular biology techniques, proteomics or bioinformatics as well interests in molecular aspects of cancer research is essential. Due to the interdisciplinary framework and close collaboration between wet-lab and computational scientists, good communicative skills in English are essential. German language skills are not required.

The Key Account Manager is responsible driving full Molecular Devices’ Product Portfolio. The associate will serve as the primary point of contact for existing and new accounts in the region, effectively communicating Molecular Devices’ value proposition. The full product portfolio includes microplate readers & washers, cellular imaging systems, clone screening and electrophysiology solutions and associated software. As a member of the sales organization, this role is responsible for building and maintaining strong customer relationships directed toward growing Molecular Devices’ market share, revenue, and profitability year over year in the following target market segments: life sciences, government installations, biotechnology, pharma, academic research labs, contract labs, and incubator spaces.

This position reports to the Regional Sales Manager and is part of the Key Account Manager commercial team. This is a remote position, covering accounts in Germany South East and Austria.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

The essential requirements of the job include:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related Life Sciences discipline.
A minimum of 2 years of field sales experience, engaging and selling into the life science, drug discovery, or related industry.
Residing within listed territory and willing to invest 70% of working time in field interacting with customers and teammates.
Passionate about using Salesforce.com CRM Database to share customer insights, forecast, accurately reflect funnel, analyze performance and identify business gaps and strengths.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with customers and internal stake holders to achieve success in a team environment.
