The Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN) is an internationally recognized neuroscientific research institute and dedicated to the research on learning and memory. Our research comprises all organizational levels of the brain - from molecular and cellular processes to complex neuronal networks and behavior. In association with the SFB 1436, Neural Resources of Cognition (supported by the German Research Foundation) we are looking for a highly motivated PhD student position (f/m/d) in systems neuroscience and neuroimaging The PhD position is available as part of a collaborative project for a fixed term appointment, initially for 3 years, with a salary of TV-L E13 (65%) starting earliest from March 1st, 2025. An extension can be made until at least Dec 31st, 2028 (in accordance with the availability of funds and individual requirements). About the project: SFB 1436 subproject B06: ‘Deployment of neural resources for temporal attention across the senses’, is a collaboration between Prof. Janelle Pakan, Prof. Eike Budinger, and Prof. Toemme Noesselt as part of an already established Collaborative Research Centre in Magdeburg (Germany). The project focuses on a key component that is instrumental in cognitive performance and memory formation, the deployment of temporal information in multisensory contexts. Your role in the project will be to investigate by means of in vivo two-photon imaging in behaving mice and correlated high-field animal MRI how temporal attention influences the generation, maintenance, and updating of multisensory stimulus representations. In collaboration with human behavioral and MRI investigations the project strives to directly connect principles of animal and human system physiology. You will work at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (Profs. Pakan and Budinger) in close cooperation with the Otto-von-Guericke-University (Prof. Noesselt). You will be part of a multidisciplinary, international, and dedicated project group that offers you a wide range of opportunities for personal and professional skill development. Your profile: MSc in Neuroscience, Biology, Biomedical engineering, Life sciences, or a related field Interest in studies on sensory systems and temporal processing across both rodents and humans Experience with MRI and/or microscopy techniques but at least general interest in neuroimaging Familiarity with statistics and programing experience with Matlab and/or python are advantageous Preference will be given to candidates with a completed FELASA course (or equivalent), but willingness to work directly with animal models is a minimum requirement. Magdeburg offers excellent opportunities for cognitive and systems neuroscientific research, including a vibrant and growing in vivo two-photon imaging community, several MRI facilities (from 3 to 9.4 Tesla) exclusively for human and animal research purposes, as well as an excellent, multidisciplinary scientific environment. The candidate will be given the opportunity to develop a doctoral thesis with extensive support through the IRTG (<a href="https://sfb1436.de/de/graduate-school" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://sfb1436.de/de/graduate-school</a>/) and the CBBS graduate program (<a href="http://gp.cbbs.eu" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://gp.cbbs.eu</a>).

The Department Cellular Neuroscience of Prof. Dr. Stefan Remy in association with the Research Training Group 2413 SynAGE, supported by the German Research Foundation, seeks a highly motivated
PhD student position (f/m/d)
Investigating neuronal connectivity using multichannel patch clamp electrophysiology
starting as soon as possible for a 3-year fixed-term period (in accordance with the availability of funds) in part time 65% (26 hours per week) with a salary of TV-L E13.
About the project: This project focuses on investigating functional neuronal connectivity within the medial septum on mouse brain slices using a combination of electrophysiological and molecular biological methods. The position will have a clear methodological focus on patch-clamp electrophysiology. Specifically, the selected candidate will employ an advanced eight-channel, multiple whole-cell patch-clamp setup to explore neuronal connectivity.
The candidate will gain hands-on experience with a range of cutting-edge techniques, including brain slice and potentially in-vivo patch-clamp electrophysiology, multielectrode arrays (MEA), molecular cell identification, and single- and two-photon imaging. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in electrophysiological methods, advanced imaging technologies and molecular biology. You will work at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN) under supervision of Prof. Dr. Stefan Remy. You will be part of a multidisciplinary, international, and dedicated project group that offers you a wide range of opportunities for personal and professional skill development. The LIN offers excellent opportunities for cognitive and systems neuroscientific research, including a vibrant in vivo two-photon imaging community, several MRI facilities, as well as an excellent, multidisciplinary scientific environment.
The candidate will be given the opportunity to develop a doctoral thesis with extensive support through the RTG2413 (https://www.synage.de) and the CBBS graduate program (http://gp.cbbs.eu). Your profile:
Master’s degree or equivalent in Neuroscience, Biology, Biomedical engineering, Life sciences, or a related field
Strong experience with electrophysiological techniques, prior experience with the patch clamp technique would be an advantage
Experience with cellular and/or molecular neuroimaging would be beneficial
Familiarity with statistical methods and programming experience in Python are advantageous
Strong intention to be a team member in a diverse research team with interdisciplinary questions
We offer:
An interesting and vibrant field of activity in an international working environment characterized by exciting research projects
Employment, remuneration, and social benefits according to the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L)
Equal opportunities and the compatibility of career and family as part of our personnel policy
Access to cutting edge technologies and campus with modern state-of-the-art infrastructure

The Institute of Experimental Internal Medicine offers PhD positions (m/f/d):
For our international team, we are looking for researchers to join our institute. Our team, comprising passionate scientists of all groups and gender, aims to maintain a communicative and open work atmosphere to excel in our daily work.
Master students who have a commitment to scientific excellence are encouraged to apply. We are looking for a colleague with high interest in biomedical basic and therapy research. We are interested in delineating mechanisms by which molecular processes (e.g. UPS- and NF-kB systems) impact on the pathophysiology and the development of inflammatory diseases, including infectious diseases and cancer. research, laboratory work
The research program of the institute encompasses basic and translational research studies, with a focus on clinically important intra- and intracellular signal transmission pathways, involving the assembly of protein complexes within signaling cascades and a variety of protein modifications with a special emphasis on the NF-kB network. For the comprehensive analysis of the regulatory networks in the cell, we rely on innovative approaches, including cooperative research in biosystems engineering, biomolecular modeling and medicinal chemistry. The molecules of interest studied in the process of molecular pathogenesis could represent protein biomarkers. Herein, exclusive proteins with a special emphasis on predictive indicators of disease are studied for therapeutic intervention and drug discovery. Infection / Cancer Biology We offer our PhD students an in-depth qualification programme including seminars, workshops, close supervision if needed but also free space to generate and develop own research ideas.
The institute cooperates with national and international research institutions, and participates in a variety of coordinated programs funded by the German Research Foundation (RTG2408), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Union. Further, the institute is member of the interdisciplinary Research Center “Dynamic Systems: Systems Engineering” of the Otto von Guericke University funded by the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt and the “European Regional Development Fund“.
