Biochemiker/in

Postdoctoral Scientist - High-throughput Immunopeptidomics Platform (Biochemiker/in)

Mainz am Rhein

Position: Postdoctoral Scientist - High-throughput Immunopeptidomics Platform

Department: HI-TRON Mainz

Code number: 2023-0433

The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

The Helmholtz Institute HI-TRON is a collaboration of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) with the Research Institute for Translational Oncology at the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (TRON gGmbH), the University Medical Center Mainz and the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The goal of the partnership is to develop effective immunotherapies and to identify novel biomarkers for assessing the effectiveness of treatment.

For the High-throughput Immunopeptidomics Platform at HI-TRON Mainz, we are seeking a postdoctoral scientist to join the team as soon as possible.

The platform aims to identify cancer-specific immunopeptides (MHC-ligands), antigens that can trigger the immune response and potential targets for immunotherapy. To achieve this, we develop and implement LC-MS-based workflows to scrutinize the immunopeptidome in clinical, preclinical, and in vitro studies. Headed by Dr. David Gomez-Zepeda, the platform was founded in June 2023 to provide scientists with cutting-edge LC-MS immunopeptidomics infrastructure and expertise. We are associated with the lab of Prof. Dr. Stefan Tenzer, forming a team of international and multi-disciplinary scientists in an innovation-driven environment.

Job description:
The project objective is to develop high-throughput workflows for sample preparation, LC-MS acquisition, and/or data analysis of immunopeptidomics experiments. To facilitate clinical studies, the goal is to achieve the analysis of hundreds of samples per week. The scientist will contribute to collaboration projects from the study design to data analysis and interpretation, aiming to identify antigens in diverse types of cancer in cell culture, tumor, and plasma samples. The specific goals will be adapted to the profile and interests of the selected applicant.

Main tasks:
•    Planning and performing experiments and analyzing, interpreting, and reporting the results
•    Communicating with collaboration partners and assisting in the coordination of students and technical staff
•    Writing scientific publications and presenting at national and/or international conferences
•    Optional: operating and maintaining LC-MS instruments (Evosep-One coupled to timsTOF Ultra), and/or the sample preparation robot (Opentrons)

Requirements:
•    Ph.D. with experience in biochemistry, biotechnology, analytical chemistry, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related fields; or M.Sc. with more than two years of experience
•    Keen interest in bioanalytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, biochemistry, immunology, and/or oncology
•    Previous experience with MS-based omics and related data analysis is an advantage, but not required
•    Strong communication skills in English are required, knowledge of German is advantageous, but not required
•    Creativity and strong analytical thinking
•    Enthusiastic and motivated team player

We offer:
•    Interesting, versatile workplace
•    Excellent framework conditions: state-of-the-art equipment and opportunity for international networking at the highest level
•    Remuneration according to TV-L incl. occupational pension plan for the public service and capital-forming payments
•    30 days of vacation per year
•    Flexible working hours
•    Possibility of mobile work and part-time work
•    Family-friendly working environment, including parent-child room, counseling services, e.g. on Elder Care
•    Sustainable travel to work: subsidized Germany job ticket
•    Develop your full potential: access to the DKFZ International Postdoc Program and DKFZ Career Service with targeted offers for your personal development to further develop your talents
•    Our Corporate Health Management Program offers a holistic approach to your well-being

Important notice:
The DKFZ is subject to the regulations of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG). As a consequence, only persons who present proof of immunity against measles may work at the DKFZ.

Earliest possible start date: as soon as possible

Duration: The position is initially limited to 2 years with the possibility of prolongation.

The position can in principle be part-time.

Application deadline: 19.12.2023
