Our group conducts research in theoretical condensed matter physics, focussing on quantum materials and paradigmatic models of correlated electrons. We develop computational quantum many-body methods and dynamical mean-field theory extensions. We specialize in real-frequency implementations to explain spectroscopy and transport measurements. YOUR TASKS

Explore quantum materials at the forefront of research in condensed matter physics
Develop and apply techniques of theoretical and computational physics
Present and disseminate research results at scientific conferences and in publications
YOUR PROFILE

M.Sc. degree in physics or a related discipline
Knowledge of relevant theoretical methods
Research experience relevant for the thesis project
Excellent command of English
High motivation, commitment good communication skills and team spirit are an asset

Bacteria are unicellular organisms, yet they can form structured communities called biofilms. Researchers in the Maier group study collective effects in biofilms combining tools from physics and microbiology. The specific research project focuses on the formation of extracellular DNA networks in early biofilms and its role in biofilm mechanics and antibiotic tolerance.

Establish a microscopic approach for quantitative imaging of alternative DNA structures in bacterial biofilms
Delevop a laser tweezers-based approach for measuring interaction forces between different structures of the extracellular matrix of biofilms
Investigate potential feedback between antibiotic treatment and antibiotic tolerance
Employ and improve data analysis programmes
YOUR PROFILE

Excellent MSc degree in physics or related field
Strong interest in interdisciplinary research
Expertise in at least one of the following fields: biological physics, programming, advanced microscopy

* Sie studieren Physik, Elektrotechnik, oder einen vergleichbaren technischen Studiengang.
* Sie verfügen über praktische Erfahrung, z.B. im Labor, oder dem Umgang mit Messgeräten.
* Sie haben eine Affinität zu Technik.
* Sie denken analytisch und lösungsorientiert.
* Sie arbeiten exakt und präzise.
